Winter Visit Information

Imagine your ski plane touching down in four feet of powdery snow on a runway marked with spruce boughs as you land on frozen Iniakuk Lake and head up to the Main Lodge. It’s “springtime” in the Brooks Range in February, March and April which means 14 hours of daylight and daytime temperatures around 20 degrees Fahrenheit (-6C).

The jagged peaks of the Brooks Range tower in the distance, smoke from the wood stove scents the air, and snow-covered silence surrounds you. Inside Iniakuk Lake Wilderness Lodge there is fresh baked bread, friendly faces and hand-crafted log surroundings. Welcome to our home.

This is luxury in the Far North. Solar panels provide 24-hour electricity, wood fires keep the lodge warm and cozy, and your dog sledding guides will keep you entertained with stories and adventures from life on the trail while providing you the opportunity to create your own.

The main lodge on Iniakuk Lake provides all-inclusive comfort surrounded by endless wilderness. Wake up in the morning to sourdough blueberry pancakes, drink coffee by the fire, then wander out to the dog yard later and mush for a few hours across the surrounding lakes and valleys. Return in the early afternoon, take a sauna, have dinner and prepare for the Northern Lights. This is luxury in the Far North.

Learn how to drive your own team of huskies, or book a trip with a professional photographic guide to document your trip and learn how to photograph the aurora as well. Our introduction to dog sledding trips are created for any fitness level while our expedition and advanced level trips require more fitness as you spend longer days on the trail, covering more miles and more difficult terrain.

This is the ultimate in Alaskan experiences and comfort 60 miles north of the Arctic Circle, six miles outside Gates of the Arctic National Park and 180 degrees from anything you have ever done before. Each trip offers exclusive use of all facilities, equipment and staff. We have been in business over 45 years in the Brooks Range, we know what it takes to have a good time in comfort.

 EXPLORE our adventure portfolios…

Situated at the north end of a lake five miles long and a mile wide, Iniakuk Lake Wilderness Lodge is overlooked by 4,000 foot (1200 meter) peaks which mark the onset of the southern Brooks Range and provide a stunning backdrop to our secluded location. The beautiful sand and gravel beaches along Iniakuk Lake are perfect for an early morning stroll or shore lunch later in the day. We have a small fleet of canoes for exploring the local coves and inlets, or pick out a scenic ridge and spend the day hiking.
